  • Responsible in maintaining lighting pipeline and workflow as dictated by project
  • Properly assess the appropriate balance of lighting and compositing for a given shot

Core Pipeline Developer

The Method Pipeline Team helps shape the evolution of our technologies and workflows to enable productions to work more quickly and efficiently. The Core Pipeline side focuses on the foundation of the system, overseeing the architecture and development of underlying software libraries and in-house applications. These include tools for asset management, software packaging, production tracking, render farm management, intersite collaboration, and much more. Core developers should be versatile and able to tackle new problems throughout the post-production pipeline as we push new technology forward.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with other developers to propose, design, and implement projects.
  • Become familiar and reuse central libraries whenever possible.
  • Conform all code to Method coding standards and conventions.
  • Document all code written on the wiki.

Responsibilities
  • Create and develop scripts and plugins for the Rigging department.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the tracking of CG elements so that both camera and objects match live-action footage in a 3D environment and maintain consistent shot quality
  • Report to Layout Supervisor regarding on-set supervision, the integration of on-set data, tracking details, Previz, animation support, layout scenes, and Outsource Material unification.
  • Work with production to create matchmove schedules and project targets for designated show

The Animator is responsible for the design and execution of high-level animation as assigned, for use in final compositing as part of the daily work. The position requires a high degree of technical skill and artistic judgement. In addition, the Animator may serve as a key front-line representative of the company and who may deal directly with clients in challenging situations.   • Work with the Animation Supervisor, Animation Lead and other animators, as well as Production staff to provide animated rendered sequences as required by the project

The Senior FX TD is responsible for creating photorealistic “FX,” (usually some natural phenomena such as fire, water, explosions, etc), using Maya and/or Houdini and any proprietary Method technology or third-party technology.  He or she should have an advanced understanding of how to manage large data sets and complex renders.  This person should also be comfortable managing teams of junior artists, (including scheduling artists, interviewing artists and mentoring artists).  He or she should also be familiar with the latest techniques and technologies, and have a deep understanding of one or more specialties.  He or she should be expert in one or more FX packages, as well as being able to develop entire tools or production pipelines, as required by the project.  The Senior FX TD is also required to develop a deep understanding of the Method pipeline, work within it, and ensure that his/her junior artists are doing the same.

As a Groom artist, you will be responsible for creating realistic natural looking long hair, fur, or feathers for Digi Doubles, Animals, Creatures, and occasionally foliage or anything with an instance nature. Grooms need to look realistic and also well setup for motion.

  • Knowledge in how to create long hair / short fur / feathers / foliage using XGen or other equivalent toolsets.

FX TD Lead

Reporting to the Head of FX, or the CG/VFX Supervisor on a project, the Lead FX TD is responsible for creating or overseeing the creation of technology to enable the building of photo-realistic effects (usually some natural phenomena such as fire, water, explosions, etc), using Maya and/or Houdini and any proprietary or third-party technology. He or she should be an accomplished artist and able to produce outstanding photo-realistic effects.

Description

The Layout Artist creates full environments based on the instructions of the VFX and CG Supervisors using established studio tools and workflows outlined by the department Supervisor and Lead. The Layout Artist will utilize tracking/matchmove data along with on-set materials and assets output from various departments to assemble and maintain shots for FX, Lighting, Animation, DMP and Compositing departments.

Responsibilities
  • Reports to Layout Department Supervisor.
  • Based on instructions from the VFX, CG supervisors and layout lead, assemble and maintain assets into project/sequence/shot based environments.
  • Assemble tracking/matchmove data into approved environment locations using studio tools and workflows.
  • Apply retime data to any animated assets that are maintained under the layout department tasks.
  • Follow studio pipeline and workflow standards setup and maintained by the Layout department Lead and Supervisor.
  • Create entirely CG camera animation based on previs and/or details from the VFX Supervisor.

The Lighter is responsible for hands on operation of a CG workstation to create desired lighting effects across shots and sequences. The position requires a high degree of technical skill and artistic judgment.  Although more of an artistic role than a technical role, some technical understanding is beneficial. The lighter must be able to balance artistic requirement with the technical limitations of the software and hardware employed.  

Responsibilities
  • Work with and support the Lead Lighter, CG Supervisor and VFX Supervisor to fulfill the creative vision of the show within technical parameters
  • Help create and/or modify lighting templates, as required
  • Troubleshoot technical production issues, as required

The Look Development Artist works with the Look Development Lead or Supervisor to define all the technical and creative aspects needed to create the appearance for CG assets for a particular project. The Look Development Artist should be able to use a variety of methods and renderers to satisfy a production’s creative needs. 

Responsibilities
  • Work with the show supervisors to create final looks, templates and materials for CG characters and environments to be used in production and interpret artistic direction from Supervisors. 
  • Working with the lead of supervisor of a show, define shader requirements, creating shader networks in Maya and Houdini, modifying shader parameters, applying texture maps, and iteratively refining the look to accomplish the art direction goals and integrating solutions into production pipeline. 
  • Participate as a team member in determining various design and technical solutions; provides feedback to other team members of the production.
  • Setup scene templates for Lighters and run shots under guidance of Lighting Supervisor.
  • Work closely with texture artists to create necessary texture maps for application to creatures, props and environments
  • Work closely with grooming artists and technical animators to create fur, hair, or cloth rigs for application to creatures, props and environments
  • Write and/or modify custom shaders, define standard render passes for a project
  • Work closely with Lead Lighting TD's and supervisors to ensure that all assets work within the scope of lighting & color pipeline requirements.

This role is for a Model/Texture Artist (MTA) with very strong modelling and texturing skills. This person will be involved in helping to create hardsurface and organic models and textures. Qualified candidates must have proven experience in production environments, demonstrating an ability to model and texture complex and accurate models from 2d reference, previs and scan data.

  • An extensive reel demonstrating a wide range of organic and hard surface models with clean and efficient topology

The roto-animator is responsible for animating a given object or character to footage at a level of detail outline by the department Supervisor. Responsibilities include proper use of studio animation tools and pipeline, maintaining proper spacial formatting as outlined by the layout department and reporting potential issues to the supervisor or leads.

Responsibilities
  • Imports the tracking/layout data to appropriate application and, using established techniques and tools
  • Tracks the characters/objects using approved puppets as directed
  • Maintains communication with tracking/layout artists to verify position accuracy
  • Manages notes from Supervisor or leads and ensure they are applied 
  • Once tasks are complete, the animated character/objects will go through QC and published to the studio

This is a broad role which encompasses many departments and disciplines, including but not limited to: modeling, texturing, rigging, creature FX, (including at least fur, cloth, soft-body deformations), and animation.

They must also have a sound knowledge and understanding of visual effects pipelines, production and implementation, as well as the ability to work well in a team.

Tracking Concept

Tracking Concept

Reporting to the Tracking Supervisor, the Tracking Artist is responsible for the tracking of moving objects and moving cameras, within a scene. Responsibilities include preparing and importing shots with the correct data, to ensure they are ready to be tracked, and recreating camera/object motion so that it can be published to the studio.

Responsibilities
  • Uses the tracking techniques, established by the facility, to prepare shots for production
  • Imports the motion to appropriate application and, using established techniques, sets up the shot to be tracked.
  • Tracks items moving and rotating on all axes for the duration of the shot
  • Uses the required tracking software to re-create camera or object motion. Where auto-tracking will not work, the Tracking Artist will hand-track the camera track or object

Reporting to the Head of Production, the VFX Producer is responsible for facilitating the bidding process and the management of information flow for VFX projects. The Creature Supervisor is responsible for the smooth running of the rigging and technical animation pipeline for a project. Experience in creature technology development, efficient rigging, anatomy knowledge, creature simulation (cloth, hair, fur, muscle, skin) and facial rigging is required.

You will be supervising Rigging and Techanim teams, while working closely with the Modelers, Animators, Groomers, CG Supervisors and the production team. This will require maintaining existing technology, integrating third-party technology, and designing and implementing all-new, proprietary technology. This is a broad role which encompasses many departments and disciplines, including but not limited to: modeling, texturing, groom, rigging, techanim and animation. 

The Creature Supervisor would also be designing the setup for animation and simulation purpose with the best performance while making sure that what the team produce meets the production need and quality standards within the allowed timeframe.

The Creature Supervisor should be comfortable managing teams (including interviewing, scheduling, and mentoring artists) but also very hands-on in producing work.   • Prepare all involved departments for the session by providing necessary information in a clear and timely manner.
